Renishaw Hall and Gardens.                                     Sunday 25th July 2004

 Renishaw Hall and Italianate Gardens.

Renishaw Hall lies to the South East of Sheffield and provided a very pleasant venue for a combined Northern Centre and Leek Sub-centre outing organised by club stalwarts Margaret and Denis Austin. Recently recruited member Adrian Fox is the catering manager here and his big Healey headed the line up outside the stable block where the restaurant is situated.
Following a decidedly wet start, the weather cleared and held fine throughout the visit. We strolled around the spectacular Italianate gardens, partook of Adrian's excellent fare over a relaxed lunch and then enjoyed an enthralling tour of the private hall with Mr Fox senior as our guide.
The hall is the ancestral home of the Sitwell family, Dame Edith being perhaps the best known to the general public. Her relatives enjoying such picturesque Christian names as Osbert, Sacheverell and even Sitwell Sitwell.
Thanks to Bernard Jones for the photos.
