Torque of the North - July 2024

Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi ,

Well, I really did think the summer had arrived, until it hadn’t!  After some long journeys last year in pouring rain, feeble windscreen wipers and water relentlessly soaking my right knee (& that was the everyday car) I reckon we are all due a bit of sun.  With a packed agenda, make sure you’ve booked in as lots of events are starting to fill up.

News from around the North
June got off to a cracking start with two major events: The guys in Scotland had a great attendance with 11 cars at Thirlstaine Castle in beautiful surroundings and blue skies,
meanwhile in Cheshire we were enjoying our supersized pitch at the very busy Tatton Park Classic Car Show, with delicious BBQ catering by Mike and Jacqui.
Over in Yorkshire and the North East, Healey activity was hotting up;  Firstly in the HealeySport Speed Championship rounds 5/6 event at Harewood Hillclimb we witnessed 16 Healeys racing the hill over two days.  Northern Centre members Rob Owen and Murray Shand were both in action.  Next Healeysport event in the Northern centre area is Loton Park on 24/25 Aug.
Meanwhile, members from the Northeast and Scotland tackled the Northumbrian 250, over a couple of days, enjoying beautiful countryside (Bamburgh Castle below) as well as great beer and food.
National Concours 2024
This year's National Concours will be held at Grantley Hall, Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG4 3ET on Wednesday the 17th of July between 10:00 and 15:00.  This is another opportunity for Northern Centre “polishers” to enter the National Concours without the need to travel outside “Gods Country”.  Further details at: www.austinhealeyclub.com
Glamis Castle Sat/Sun 13th - 14th July - The Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club will once more hold their 48th Scottish Transport Extravaganza in the magnificent grounds of Glamis Castle over the weekend.  Whilst the AHC stand is full but you may still be able to get a private entry via the Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club website.  Contact Ian Walker: scotland@ahc-northern.org.uk for details
Summer  Drive and BBQ at Gawsworth Hall
Back again this year, without the rain, we are holding our BBQ at the fabulous Gawsworth Hall on Wed 24th July 2024, please note, no rain booked!  Starting at 10 AM with tea and coffee, we’ll have an exclusive 1 hour guided tour of the Tudor Hall, a chance to eat your own picnic on the lawns, a 2 hour drive around the scenic Peak District roads ending up back at Gawsworth Hall for a private BBQ indulging in the splendour and the peace and quiet of the enchanting grounds. Goodbyes from 6:30pm.  Price: £30pp includes, arrival refreshments, guided tour, driving route and BBQ in the grounds of Gawsworth Hall.  Only two spaces left so book your place by contacting Doug:  chairman@ahc-northern.org.uk with names and special dietary requirements.
