Torque of the North - February 2025

Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi ,

News from around the North
Great to see the awful weather hasn’t kept everyone in front of the telly or in the garage (bit parky for that).  Across Northern we’ve celebrated Christmas and New Year at six separate events in Scotland, Northeast, Yorkshire, North Wales, Lakes and Dales, and Cheshire with over 123 members and friends joining in.  It was great to see the new season start with a bang and we’re looking forward to seeing you all at the huge list of 2025 events!

Don’t leave it too late to plan out your year
Many of the shows and events across the region have already started taking bookings for their shows. Glamis Castle in July has already opened and closed their club stand bookings so it’s clear that you will need to be quick!
In Cheshire, Oulton Park is selling tickets now for the Gold Cup in July so if you want to attend on the club stand go to the Northern Centre website for details on how to buy discounted club tickets from the organisers.
Similarly, in Yorkshire, the Hebden Bridge Vintage Weekend in August, which is always a sellout, has display tickets on sale.  Instructions on how to get tickets are on the Northern Centre website. When you’ve booked, let Jeff know so that he can negotiate a Club area with the organisers

Want to attend a show?
Other events are opening for bookings in the coming months and we will update you here as they come along, but you can get ahead of the game.  Go to the Northern Centre website, checkout the list of planned events for the coming year and contact the nominated organiser to let them know that you want to join their event.
Mad Hatters Classic Car Gathering
Saturday, 1st June, sees a one-off opportunity to join a limited number of guests at an event near Ripon in aid of Martin House Children’s Hospice.  Guests will get the unique chance to see the very rare Car Collection belonging to the Ward brothers and much more.  See the flyer at the end of our newsletter for details.

Still to come!

Scotland (Central) Noggin
We announced last month that the Scottish Area is moving its Central Noggin location and timing to a more flexible arrangement with a daytime meet in conjunction with “Coffee and Classics”.  Full details are in the “forthcoming events” section below and we’ll leave that list in there as a reference for the season.

Drive It Day 2025

2025 Drive It Day is a week later than normal, to avoid a clash with Easter.  So, save Sunday 27th April 2025 to join in with one of the four planned drives in Cheshire, North Wales, Yorkshire and Northeast, details in Revcounter, TOTN and on the website.  If you would like to support Childline, you can get your 2025 fundraising plates from https://www.driveitday.co.uk/shop

Cheshire Drive It Day
We have got the planning well under way for our first ever Drive It Day in Cheshire.  Meeting at “The Lambing Shed”, Knutsford, for Bacon Rolls at 9:30 to depart at 10:15.  Then, meandering (or getting lost) through the Cheshire lanes in the manner of a “Touring Assembly” for a couple of hours (60 miles) to “The Shady” by the canal near Beeston Castle for a pub lunch booked at 1pm.  It will be a very relaxed affair as Doug & Phil are organising!

Contact Doug on: chairman@ahc-northern.org.uk or 07940 313947 to book your place – limited to 15 cars!
Yorkshire Drive It Day
To Ashford in the Water in the Peak District.  Meet at Yummy Yorkshire for breakfast, tea/coffee and signing of the necessary paperwork. Lunch at the George at Hathersage.

Contact Jeff Holinshead, see below, if you want to book a place.

North East Drive It Day
The Northeast team are planning to join the MGCC on their annual Drive It Day. Contact Murray Shand, see below, for more details or if you want to book a place.
