Torque of the North - April 2021

Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi,

Welcome to April’s newsletter, the big news is the launch of our “Membership Map”, as well as an introduction to the North Wales sub-centre, an invitation from Cumbria and reminder of Gawsworth weekend on 31st May.

The Membership Map is a new development managed by our Chairman, Paul Johnson with support from resident computer geek Robert Thornburrow:
  • The map shows where members are located (defined by postcode although specific locations aren’t shown). This allows you, as a member, to see if other members are located nearby. Whilst names (only nicknames) are shown, it means you’ll be able to message local members, either individually or in a group. They can then reply using their own email address.
  • The pins will contain a number showing the members in that specific postcode.
  • To ensure privacy and security the map will only be accessible from the Members’ Area of the National Website...if you've used the website before, you’ll not need to register.
Whilst the map provides lots of opportunities to communicate it is highly reliant on as many members as possible accessing the map and adding their details.  SO PLEASE, FOLLOW THIS LINK AND ADD YOUR DETAILS!  Instructions for using the map can be found here.

The recent presentations by Paul Ireland Classic Engines, Modern Fuel - The Problems, the Solutions, were very successful, big thanks to Doug McClymont for all the work in organizing, hosting and managing questions.  Each of the three presentations were recorded and we are looking at ways of making them accessible for members.

Any members in Cumbria and the Lakes, or close by, please note that Paul Ellis (paulellis20 at aol.com) is busy gathering responses from members in his area, with the aim of organizing some local runs and “get togethers”.  Similarly if there are any members out there who would like to volunteer to be a new local point of contact in their area, please let us know so that we can provide support and put you in touch with other members.

Formed in 1979 the North Wales sub-centre, enthusiastically run by John and Jill Bowman, covers a wide area including Anglesey, Wrexham, Wirral and as far down as Porthmadog!  Their permanent home for meetings is Northop Hall Cricket Club, conveniently placed just over the English border, meeting on the third Thursday of every month (barring bad weather/Covid-19). The club hopes to be meeting again very soon - even if outside and with social distancing.  The meetings usually attract around twenty members each month with a fair percentage of lady enthusiasts too.  Contact Jill Bowman for more details on 07766 706554.
As advised in last months email, car shows are back for 2021!  Our first foray will be Gawsworth Hall, the beautiful setting for the Youngtimer Car Show on the late Bank Holiday 31st May.  So “get your skates on” if you want to join us at Gawsworth (just south of Macclesfield) .  Please email Jonathan Pilkington at treasurer@ahc-northern.org.uk to register your interest.

That's all for this month, watch out for May’s Torque of the month & lets hope for some decent weather.
